Kick Butts Day 2005...

The Nicotine Narcs celebrated KBD's 10th Anniversary on April 13, 2005 with their annual conference!

In honor of Kick Butts Day 2005, the NicotineNarcs decided to hold another conference with Dr. Victor DeNoble to try and reach even more Macomb County students. The day was planned on the annual Kick Butts Day of April 13th at the MISD, and dozens of schools were invited.

Dr. DeNoble agreed to present his life story about working for Phillip Morris, and share the results of his scientific studies. He has shared his story with thousands of people, and the NicotineNarcs decided that he was the best option to spread the message to their peers.

Over 250 students and 50 adults from as far away as Port Huron and Detroit gathered on April 13th and listened to Dr. DeNoble’s story. The group then broke into three breakout sessions, dedicated to Advocacy, Advertising, and Tobacco 101.

The crowd from over a dozen schools.
The groups who had the least amount of Tobacco knowledge received the 101 course, while groups that wanted to get more involved in their schools took the advocacy training (both facilitated by CARE staff). The remaining students got trained in the trickery that Tobacco companies use in their advertising (led by the gracious Plumstreet team).

The daytime conference was followed by an evening edition for adults, where Dr. DeNoble gave a similar, but more in-depth presentation. The day’s events were warmly received by all in attendance, and many schools approached NicotineNarc members to get information on joining the team.

Kick Butts Day is the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids' annual celebration of youth advocacy, leadership and activism.

On April 5, 2006, thousands of youth in every state and around the world will STAND OUT…SPEAK UP… and SEIZE CONTROL in the fight against Big Tobacco. As always, you have the opportunity to get involved and use kickbuttsday.org to plan your 2006 activities.
