NicotineNarcs
Take Action
Spreading the Message to Flint, Lansing, and Grand Rapids
 |
| Students
planning activites for 2005. |
As
word of the NN activities spread, our group was invited
to present our accomplishments to new teen groups forming
in other areas.
A small group of NN developed a PowerPoint presentation
and traveled to Flint/Lansing to present their methods
of fighting Big Tobacco to new teen anti-tobacco groups
just forming. It was extremely flattering to be selected
to do this and a great ego booster for the NN. They recognized
they were making a difference. Spreading the Message to
Parents
A select group of NN presented their activities to over
500 parents through a table display and presentation at
CAREs 8th Annual Parenting Conference.
The NN have also:
produced morning announcements to be read
over the PA on tobacco facts
produced public service announcements video
clips to be shown on school TV during lunch and classroom
announcement time
ran a poster contest in local elementary
buildings to educate on the dangers of smoking
set up NOT (Not On Tobacco, an American
Lung Society Program) teen cessation classes
within their own buildings and recruited peers to attend
the 10 week sessions.
 |
| The
Nicotine Narcs booth at the 2005 Parenting Conference
targeted the marketing tactics of big tobacco. |
Established TATU (Teens Against Tobacco
use, an American Lung Association program) within their
individual districts. These groups then contacted and
set up dates at local elementary schools to do skits and
talk with 4th, 5th and 6th graders about the hazards of
tobacco use.
Developed a Tobacco Use Survey. The anonymous
survey was distributed to students for completion. The
accuracy of the survey is uncertain. Because of this,
the data was not forwarded to teachers and administrators
as originally intended.
